Is Sleep Leadership Even A Thing?

by | Sep 20, 2022

Yup! Sleep leadership sure is a thing. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your team is to catch a few ZZZ’s!

Continuing with our theme of Powerhouse Healthy Habits, you will enter into your Physically Fit Room where we will talk about good, healthy SLEEP HYGIENE.

We know that as a society we are sleep deprived. We know that the average person is not consistently getting 7 – 9 hours of good sleep and those are the magic numbers.

My invitation to you is to make sure that you are getting enough sleep.

In my book The Powerhouse In You: How to lead with greater resilience, courage, and confidence I have a whole section devoted to good sleep hygiene. If you already have my book, I encourage you to check it out on page 118.

It has been said that it takes 21 days to form a habit. When it comes to building a bedtime routine, which is critical to the foundation of good sleep hygiene, this could include things like:

      • Decluttering your bedroom
      • Removing all technology, including tv’s, laptops, and cell phones
      • Ensure your room is completely dark
      • Avoid caffeine after 3:00 pm
      • Minimize your food intake after 7:00 pm
      • Consistently go to bed at the same time every night
      • Read or listen to a soothing meditation
      • Get up at the same time every day, even on the weekend

I invite you to pick one of these and do it every day for 21 days. I guarantee that after 21 days of you being consistent with whatever that one action step is, it will make a huge difference. It will:

      • Build your immunity
      • Improve your focus
      • Improve your interpersonal skills
      • Less miscommunication, meaning less conflict

Perhaps the most important benefit is that you will be able to be at your optimal best! Your health and your overall sense of well-being will be so much better.

As a leader, it is so important that you get enough sleep. You need that rest to be able to rejuvenate.

A RESTED LEADER IS A BETTER LEADER!

I’d love for you to share this with your team. I encourage you to invite them to try one of the action steps above and report back their results after 21 days.

Remember, you are a POWERHOUSE!

BE more kind to yourself.
BE more compassionate.
BE more forgiving.
BE more loving.

Wishing you a powerful week.
