Are You Listening To Your Body’s Wisdom?

by | Dec 16, 2021

Continuing with our Powerhouse Holiday Hacks, as a leader, we see so much happening around us with our teams, don’t we? We can see them wearing out, we can see some are already in burnout or that they are heading in that direction and while the holidays can be an exciting time, they can also be a very physically taxing time. Their plates are already full and now they’ve got all of these extra things (shopping, cooking, sending out cards) coming at them.

I wanted to share some cool ideas that you might already know but that I thought would be good to bring back to the forefront.

It’s really important, now more than ever, that we listen to our body’s wisdom.

What I’ve been asking you to do at your next meeting or during a conversation with a colleague, is to ask “What’s the number one habit that you are doing that has really made a difference in you physically releasing the stress?”

Right now we are in a sleep deprivation crisis. We need to talk about this and have discussions about this in the workplace. We need to talk about things like:

What happens when you don’t sleep? What do you do? Do you:

  • Use melatonin?
  • Have a No Technology routine?
  • Have a 7 day “No TV Cleanse” and notice the difference?

These are the kinds of conversations we need to be having. For people to be physically fit, particularly during the Holiday season, we need to talk about these things in the workplace. You better believe that it is impacting your staff now.

When sleep-deprived, people are:

  • Making more mistakes
  • Getting into more accidents
  • Getting sicker
  • More likely to be experiencing ramped up burnout

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve done coaching with all levels of employees (front-line staff, middle managers, and senior leaders) as a result of conflicts. Once we were able to peel back the layers of the onion, it was because they were sleep-deprived and exhausted. That’s where we did the work. We created some healthy routines and habits for them.

My invitation is to ask yourself, your team, and your family members “What’s the one physical habit that you are doing that is having the greatest impact on you right now?” Is it:

  • Around sleep?
  • Minimizing your sugar?
  • Minimizing your flour intake?
  • Cutting down on dairy?
  • You are moving for 20 minutes every day to release the stress?

Imagine if at your next staff meeting you get one of your team members, who maybe is a yoga instructor, and have them get up and do some stretches. Or maybe just have everyone get up and rock on and dance to some fun music?

And so, I leave you with that. I think it is very important that we are focused on how to release this stress so our body can work at it’s optimum.

Please share this video with your team or with other leaders to share what everyone’s Holiday Hacks are. I’d love to what other Holiday Hacks you’ve got that help you and your team, get through the busyness of the season.

BE more kind to yourself.
BE more compassionate.
Be more forgiving.
Be more loving.

Remember, you are a Powerhouse.

Wishing you a powerful week.
